A New Way to Measure Photosynthesis. Besides carbon dioxide, OCO-2's high-resolution spectrometers can observe solar-induced fluorescence, or SIF. Additionally, we used solar-induced fluorescence (SIF) measurement from OCO-2 to understand how the CO2 emissions are related to agricultural activities. Finally, we estimated an average emission of CO2 from the Nile Delta from 2014–2019 of 470 Mt CO2/year, about 1% of global anthropogenic emissions, which is significantly more than estimated hitherto. High Resolution Global Contiguous SIF Estimates Derived from OCO-2 SIF and MODIS This dataset provides high-resolution, spatially-contiguous, global solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) estimates at 0.05 degree (approx. 5 km at the equator) spatial and 16-day temporal resolution beginning in September 2014 and continuing to the present. OCO‐2 SIF showed strong correlations with tower GPP at both midday and daily timescales, with the strongest relationship observed for daily SIF at the 757 nm (R 2 = 0.72, p < 0.0001).
